Anyone else notice during the last few seconds of the video how Kisshomaru Ueshiba goes for a kotegaeishi and Tohei isn't having it?
And that second video is sweet! Haven't seen that one before!

Yep, looks like he absorbs the force, lets it go down his legs and then slips his head into the gap. Which would mean that K's downward cut didn't capture his center.

Look to me like it was planned to go that way - pretty standard demonstration of henka-waza, isn't it?

Yeah, I doubt it was a spur of the moment thing - a good unexpected kotegashi is hard to avoid.
