aikido words of wisdom
ive just been on a 2 day course and our sensei was giving one of his wisdom speaches,( which as it happens i really enjoy, ) however todays was one like ive never heard, it blew my mind, it should be a slogan for aikidoka all the world over, here it is........."NO MATTER HOW STRONG YOU ARE YOU CANT PUSH A WET NOODLE " . i love it it totaly rocks, it makes fantastic sense when you think about it. please post any words of wisdom with a difference. thanks.............

Re: aikido words of wisdom
Simple, not easy (I've always enjoyed that one)
|
You'd be surprised at how much aikido philosophy you can pick up on at the end of the party when there's just a couple drunk sempai and you.

A piece of advice that was very helpful in my training was.
"Keep your unbendable arm while rolling!"

To speak ill of anything is against the nature of Aikido

Re: aikido words of wisdom
My sensei often says "most aikido techniques will not work in a real situation." Wow, that's good to know!

Feel where his energy is going, and respond to that. You can always change techniques in the middle if you need to.

Don't know of whom the quote is, but I remember vaguely Sensei Emmerson telling the story a couple of years ago...

Re: aikido words of wisdom
Continuing on the knife note, I remember hearing the following from a 4th dan addressing a steakhouse table full of aikidoka ranging from the most junior up to 1st kyus:
On the street if he's got a knife, chances are you ARE gonna get cut. BUT, you can try to control where and how badly. It's better to take superficial wounds to the outside of the forearm than a penetrating stab to the abdomen.
Of course, to the horror of other restaurant patrons, there followed a table full of aikidoka going through the motions with steak knives from the table.
