New Spelling Checker

Hi folks,

I went and installed a new spelling checker package here on AikiWeb to help correct spelling mistakes in posts.

I went and installed a bunch of aikido words into a custom dictionary as well.

If you run into any problems with the new spell check (which requires Javascript support on your browser) or find any additional aikido terminology that you think should be in the dictionary, please let me know.

Thanks,

-- Jun

Akiyama-san,

the spell checker works fine. Used it a couple of times, haven't had any problems with it.

Thanks also for hosting this site, and sorry that occasionally you have to wade in as "sheriff" and let your cooler head prevail where others let theirs get away from them.

warmest regards,

Jamie

Re: New Spelling Checker

I only discovered this feature a couple of minutes ago and I think it is great. I am not sure I will use it much myself, though. The reason is, I am not a native speaker of English and my English is pretty distinctly British English (BE) but of course with some Swedish accent and more mistakes than most Brits. I consciously try and keep my English BE - not that there is anything bad about AE, but it is not how I speak the language. AE spelling matches my BE pronounciation very badly. This AE spell checker would push my written English in a direction I do not like.

I feel a bit bad about being a non-native speaker refusing to use this excellent tool which certainly would make my posts easier to read - when reading old posts of mine I realise I make a lot of mistakes, much more than I do on web forums in my own language. Asking Jun for a separate BE dictionary complemented with aikido terminology might be a bit over the top, so I am not asking for it. How many more people like me there are on the forums who would use a BE spell checker but not one that uses an AE dictionary, I do not know.
