Mary,

I visited Kashiwaya Sensei many years ago. He told me the same thing!!! Craig and I were practicing one night being quite "firm" with each other. Kashiways Sensei happened by and I learned very quickly that falling with balance and ki was far more enjoyable than being thrown when trying to avoid being thrown!!!!!

Atemi for wimps:

Tickle waza is effective,
Though there is verbal tikle waza too. Planting a kiss on the cheek freaks most blokes out enough to move them, but watch this one in Brighton/ San Fransisco. Spitting is another option, though a little uncivilised. Could also say, "look behind you..." then do it.
