Because it rocks (Pink Floyd)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wtiN...eature=related

The second one; same song with bowie singing, and a soaring second lead by David. Very expressive around 5:41... beautiful bends

Man I wish I could make my guitar sound like that.
...And was that actual Roger AND Dave on the same stage in the first video!?

Re: Because it rocks

Wow. We were out at a pizza place the other night, and they were playing "Money", which made me realize I hadn't listened to Pink Floyd in many years. I don't even know what happened to my CDs. But I do remember seeing them in concert and being blown away by how amazing David Gilmour's guitar playing is live. Some of the extended solos he took were just tasty.

As for my guitar playing, I've been working more along this line, since I don't have an electric guitar -

Another inspirational clip. This is what happens when Snoop Dogg and Warf from Star Trek have a child, and then ask Joe Pass to raise him as if he was his own son.

Re: Because it rocks

Hi ya Josh
Hope to see ya soon

David Gilmore
Technically- he isn't up there with the greats, not by a long shot. But he is so expressive, his voicing so sublime that it crosses the age old boundries of technical brilliance and all the other things that make music....music, evocative emotion, expressivness, voicing etc. There are more moments he takes the roof off the place.

Acoustic
Duck was great!! Nice find. James Taylor can be very surprising as well with arpegiating everything.
One I use to play 5 nights a week back in the day- with dueling guitars

A far more complex cover by Leo Kotke

Enjoy

Re: Because it rocks

Love Gilmour for the same reasons. I feel it, he feels it, everyone feels it. That's art in my opinion.

How about some good, old fashioned, southern fried, improvisational, slapping-slide guitar?

Ladies and gentlemen; Derek Trucks!

Hah
The first. Except we played, then dueled, then played with a finish. It was always at the end of a rocking set and took the crowd unawares.

Ya know I love the fact that good old fashioned flat picking bluegrass, and guys like Kotke and the last vid of yours.... put the "rock gods" on their asses.
Even
this guy
is light years ahead of

fixed URLs
George Benson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn27IcAapPI

is light years ahead of Van Halen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Zm5c7mKjrQ
And Eddie said it first.

Not mention watching Geroge play amazing complex Jazz improve and sing what he is playing note for note as he is improvising.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voNje...eature=related
I watched him do this with classical improve pro Earl Klug when he was just a kid and sat and bought them drinks after-when I was 17!
Nothing like sneaking into those Jazz clubs under age.

Re: Because it rocks (Pink Floyd)

Benson is phenomenal. I need to get out more and see some shows. Last one I saw was Buckethead. My daughter plays guitar and she wanted to see him....strange, strange, strange. But I must admit, he shreds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaCErlW-3p8

...and speaking of old rock gods, Gilmour is still getting it done.

Re: Because it rocks (Pink Floyd)

Sorry for the double post. One of the benefits of working in the engineering field, I can work on designs at my computer while listening to Youtube.

This is one of my favourites of Sir David Gilmour.

Nice! Sorta reminds me of this pure shredder:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asUQBl1DTDA

I like George Lynch and Eddie Van Halen's false/pick/pinch harmonics.

Re: Because it rocks

I wonder who has heard of this guy: Davey Williams. He played in the Mississippi Delta with Johnny Shines, who spent years traveling with Robert Johnson.

In this clip, catch from 2:53, when the guitar solo starts because the singer is a bit off key before that and it's pretty loose in a lot of ways.

I think Roger Waters looks like John Messores Sensei.
