Question Good dojo in Melbourne?

I have been training for 5 years in Aikikai style by watching clips in youtube and attending some seminars of Hombu shihans.
I'm looking for a good dojo in Melbourne to practice.
Could any one advice which dojo is suitable for me to join in terms of:
1. Japanese sensei
2. Frequent seminars of Hombu shihan or Yamada shihan, Chiba shihan(Japanese shihan)
3. High spirit, high concentration in training
4. Friendly environment
5. Hombu style, Iwata style, Ki Society...
6. Good ukes, good practitioners
I've got so many criteria .Could any one advice to find any dojo which sound similar?
Thank you very much for your helps

Melbourne Florida or Melbourne Australia?

If Florida try www.brevardaikikai.com. If you hurry you can attend the USAF Winter Camp with Yamada Sensei this coming weekend.

Re: Good dojo in Melbourne?

If you are looking for Melbourne Australia, there are few excellent teachers with a lot of experience, none however are Japanese. Off the top of my head I'd recommend looking at these all of which have close ties to Japanese teachers with visits from senior teachers:

Aiki-Centre (my old dojo in Aus, Sensei Catherine Schnell 6th Dan Yuishinkai) not hombu affiliated. http://www.aikicentre.com.au/

Shodokan (Sensei Joe Thambu 7th Dan Yoshinkan) again not hombu affiliated (?) but an excellent teacher. http://www.aikidoshudokan.com/

Rensei Dojo (Sensei Barry Night 6th Dan Takemusu Iwama Ryu) Hombu affiliated I think http://www.aikido-takemusu.com.au/rensei.htm

You will also find Aikikai schools (headquaters in Clifton Hill, but I don't know much about the senseis)

Re: Good dojo in Melbourne?

Joe's aikido and demos are extremely impressive, and on the few times I've met him he seems like a really nice guy. I have a lot of respect for the people I mentioned though all have very different aikido. There are many places in Melbourne to train, so if that's where you are heading I hope you find something that suits you.

I didn't mean to disparage the others. I just haven't heard much about them, either good or bad.

Re: Good dojo in Melbourne?

As Tony pointed out you could try Aikikai Australia http://www.aikido.org.au.
They have dojos around Melbourne and the main dojo is near the city with good public transport access and classes every day.
They are holding their annual Summer School in January and the guest instructor will be Yamada Shihan.
All the instructors are direct students of Sugano Shihan ( see http://aikidomelbourne.org.au/pages/...nstructors.asp for instructor profiles)

But as is always recommended here, look around and try a number of schools to see which best fits your needs.

regards

And yes I am a member of Aikikai Australia

Re: Good dojo in Melbourne?

As Millsy stated, you can try Aikikai (http://aikido.org.au)

They have dojos all around Melbourne and the main dojo is located near the City with easy access via public transport. There are multiple classes every day.
Yamada Shihan is the Patron of Aikikai Australia since Sugano Shihans passing and he will be the Guest instructor at the National training week in January.
All the instructors are students of Sugano Shihan (http://aikidomelbourne.org.au/pages/...nstructors.asp ) .

As has been stated here on multiple occasions, go and try a number of dojos to see which is best for you.

Regards
