Re: my san dan test video link

it will not work this way. First you must upload video on internet site, like www.youtube.com and then provide us a link.
good luck!

Re: san dan test video

Well done, out of the few test clips I have seen that is, IMHO, in my top three. There is a BIG danger with Youtube in that there are some trolls that like nothing better to pee on your parade and add nasty comments (I have read O' Sensei referred to as ... ... ... can't repeat, just go and look it up).

Re: san dan test video

The techniques look good and crisp. The movement style looks a lot more bending at the hip instead of the knees than I am used to.

The part that seems strange to me is uke's approach/attack. I am used to seeing ukes attack really aggressively on dan tests. This guy is taking nice falls, but attack-wise he appears to just be timidly holding his hand out so you can do something to him. Several times, it even looks like he is really reaching it out there like he is reluctant to get his center too close to you. Is this a deliberate convention for this portion of the test in your school?

Re: san dan test video

Nice selection of techniques and congatulations. My only critique, is lack of solid footwork, stance and zanshin, off course I say this to about everyone, and not seeing any of your previous training, can lead to a skewed perspective of you and your training, I say the same thing about me, but if you notice in some waza you are taking a lot of extra steps, now this may be due to tired uke, so you compensate a little, or whatever, second in the very first two techniques, you are leaning out of the way of that strike, puts you off balance just a hair. But some of your techniques, way good...especially on a test. I.e. the touchless koshinage...Nice!!!

Dan Hover

of course that's my opinion, I could be wrong

aikido video link to san dan test

Hi guys my name is Bashar I'm new to this forum i wanted to post some clips from my san dan test to get an idea of what other martial artist think here's a Little history, I'm studying aikido budo ryukukai under katsumi niikura sensei for 11 years and currently also studying judo under saito sensei who is the USA Olympics referee for the past two Olympics, very famous judo est he s hachidan in judo, keep in mind although niikura sensei studied at the hombu dojo under morihei ueshiba and is ranked rokudan in aikido he also studied (jujitsu sandan) (iaido and tai do godan) and ( karate hachidan) so are style is budo which include lots of ground fighting some karate and we practice a separate class for iaido so please understand the difference between aikikai and budo ryukukai when you watch these clips thank you very much

Re: san dan test video

Thank You Dan I Know What Your Saying Also My Test Was Completly Last Minute Sensei Asked Me To Test A Week Before I Dint Work With Any Of My Ukes Before The Test They Chose Any Attack The Wanted I Went With The Flow Unlike My Shodan Or Nidan I Told Each Uke What Attack I Expected And Sensei Nailed Me On My Nidan Test That Dan Test Should Be Random And Randori All The Way Not Katas So I Just Did Class As Much As Possible And Tested On That Day As If It Was Regular Practice

Re: san dan test video

Like I said, you are probably your own worst critic, I know I am, and I tend to be a perfectionist, something I am working on. The jutsu portions a little unusual from a traditionalist point of view, but not being familiar with your style, they look good.

Crossposting is usually frowned upon. Posting the link in the other forum suffices.

The danger of that exists only if you opt to allow comments to go without your first reviewing and approving. Additionally, the user can also remove these comments from the clip.

Feedback - Floorwork nice, good variety. Couldn't see any 'grapevine' of the ankles though - was that by choice or not something you do?

In the aikido clips - nice selection of techniques and flow albeit with an uke obviously allowing you to demonstrate your stuff (nothing wrong with that BTW). 1 big thing though - when applying sankyo you were stood right in front of your uke. For me this is bad kamae and something to address.

Look again and you can see that he wouldn't need to use his other arm to strike you - you are so close he could headbutt you!

FWIW

BTW - you are very brave in opening yourself up to all us keyboard warriors so please take my comments in good faith.

Respectfully

D

Re: my san dan test video link

yes you are right about my sankyo i made a few more mistakes but considering that this was all random randori i dint tell uke how to attack or did uke have any idea what i was going to do matter effect i dint work with this particular uke at all he was a sub for another uke who got injured the day before i guess i should have practiced harder but also if you look close i mix my aikido with lots of judo and jujitsu you will notice that on my sankyo not only was uke on his toes but his body was leaned forward ready to throw so uke could not do much for even a good head butt would need some balance to be applied when your balance is taken only for brief seconds before a throw your thinking of balancing your self before striking and that's normal sycolagy, tested you will see and all you need is a brief seconds.

Re: my san dan test video link

Personally, I love to see the variety of throws but I have to agree on the foot work comment. You need to realize that what happens to you "after" the throw is just as important as during the throw.
Sustained awareness, particularly after the execution of a technique is itself is very important.

I don't usually comment on these things but I really liked your energy, the fact that you put yourself out here for comment, and your ability to listen to criticism. Good for you, I wish you could spread some of it around.
