Smile Where to host website?

Hi folks,

I am almost ready to put my new dojo website on line, but want to get opinions from you all on who you think is the best website host out there.

Please everyone, put in your $.02 on this.

all the best,

Hi Rachel,

I use http://www.domaindirect.com/ .

There are others that are cheaper, but I've never had any problems with Domain Direct. I can't say that about some others that I've worked with other dojo/organizations websites.

If you're interested, please feel free to e-mail me directly.

Best Regards,

Greg Jennings

I have had good luck with Verisign, at $19.95 per month for 5 pages. I use them for my business, and it was easy to set up and maintain.

My very humble site is hosted through AT&T Worldnet service. I have AT&T dial-up service at my home, with the service I get six different e-mail addresses and each address is allowed up to 10MB of webspace.

I've never had any difficulties with AT&T. You can FTP upload pages or use their own online software to create your website. I used Microsoft Word as the HTML editor for my site (mainly because I know very little about HTML) and then used the "http" upload option through AT&T.

I have a decent number of photos on my site, and a good bit of text. I'm not even close to my 10MB limit. Of course, I could always create another e-mail ID and then link my dojo web page to the new e-mail ID's pages. By doing that, you could have 60MB of webspace.

Since I don't surf the net too much at home, I signed up for the 150 hour plan at $14.95 per month. I think the unlimited plan is $21.95 or similar. If all you're doing is hosting a site, go with the $14.95 plan.

The 150 hours is the time you're connected to the internet through the dial-up connection, not how often or for how long your site is viewed by other folks.

You can look at my site here:

Thank you all for your ideas and comments. I ended up hosting, at least for the time being, with Verio. Once the site is up and running, I'll see if I can post it for you all to see. I really appreciate the comments you folks gave me, and look forward to a good presence on the web! (and of course, hopefully in the small town I'm setting up shop).

best to you,

Rachel

For others that might need webspace.

www.readyhosting.com has tons of features, unlimited email & webspace, and is inexpensive. You also get your choice of domain name for free. They are one of the top rated hosting services.

I know this sounds like I commercial but I have been very happy with their services, I promise that I don't work for them
