Aididas Gi's on clearance

Combatsports.com has really nice adidas gi's on clearance. their judo gi is 269.00 and marked down to 89.99. They have other gi's also marked down. Jiujitsu gi (a much nicer cut imho) is 159.99 marked down to 39.99).

Wow. Those are good prices.
Anyone here familiar with Adidas sizing?
I am about 6ft, weigh around 175lbs; I am worried the "American" sizing is for 6ft1in but 200lbs (i.e. mega-wide @ shoulders and waist)

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

Thanks! I ordered two of the Aikido Club gi. They don't seem to have the stripes like the others. My sensei would not like the Adidas stripes, I don't think!

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

@ Wesley & Karen,
Once you get yours, would you mind posting at the very least your impressions of these (i.e. thickness relative to other brands you own) or even pictures?

@ Jory,
Ahhh, Japan in July; I vowed to never again visit in the summer.
Look into the "seersucker" jackets from either Tozando
http://aikido.tozando.com/ag250.html
or Iwata has one I saw/felt for myself last summer; just gorgeous; I think it is their "Miyabi" one

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

Just received it today. It is thicker than I expected especially it's just $30 and it's from Adidas. Here is a couple of pictures for it.

EDIT: It is pending approval.

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

Thanks Wesley
Overall, you are happy with the quality? Knees are doubled?
I noticed the sizing you purchased; this fits you well ?

Thanks for that.

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

I wear size 5 from another set from elsewhere, but this one is a bit too big for me. I have to fold up the sleeves. Knees are doubled, but the clothes on the trousers is not that thick to begin with. Doubled or not won't make that much difference. The jacket is thick. I prefer to war my Karake jacket for now since we are having close to 100F (37C) weather these couple of days.

Their size chart: http://www.combat-sports.com/akidogisizing.asp
I'm 5'11" but this size 5 (190cm) is just a tag too big for me.

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

I don't know. I haven't washed it yet. I was considering reselling it locally and then order a smaller one. You think it would shrink a bit? If so, then I can keep it myself.

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

I am of the opinion that all gi made of 100% cotton WILL SHRINK; the only question is how much they will shrink, not if. Some shrink very little, some quite a bit.

I found this
http://www.kodokangear.com/adidas-aikido-uniform.html
"ADIDAS AIKIDO UNIFORMS
are made from 100% cotton. These uniform are not prewashed or preshrunk. All Adidas Aikido Uniforms will shrink approximately 1 full size. It will take about 4 wash and dry cycle to stablize the shrinkage. The recommended cleaning procedure is to wash your Aikido uniform in cold water and hang dry to avoid over shrinkage."

If I were you, I would wash it for sure at least 3 or 4 times before deciding to sell it. I am of this opinion even before seeing the above, but seeing it in print only reinforces my opinion.

Good luck!

Keep us posted!
On another note, my wife has relatives in Levittown, and we have been there several times to enjoy Jones Beach over the years; in fact we are trying to get down there again this summer.

Re: Aididas Gi's on clearance

It does shrink quite a bit even just after one wash. It almost fits me now. I prefer the sleeve to be a bit shorter.

Jones Beach is too crowded. Drive a bit further to Robert Moses. I found it's a bit cleaner and a bit less crowded. It's a very nice drive on Ocean Pkwy from Jones Beach to Robert Moses. I always enjoy driving there.

Re: Adidas Gi's on clearance

I ordered two sets of Gi of different sizes before getting to see the photos you put on the web. From the labels, I notice that the Gi are made in Pakistan. I have worn before; the quality of these Gi are lot more better than those from China. The down side is that they do shrink with every wash.

To avoid drastic shrinkage is not to dry them in dryers or under direct sunlight. With these Gi, it is always better to buy them a size or more bigger as they can shrink up to 4 inches or more.

Hi David,

Could you tell us your height/weight, and which 2 sizes you ordered (not to mention which fits you better after washing)?
