Smile Advice.... for future reference.

Hi, I live in Costa Rica and I am about to finish college in dec. of this year or may of next. So when I graduate I will have more than a year in my training. So I want want several things first: To get my MBA in Japan or Taiwan and train there for the time I am studyin. Or Just to train pref. as an uchi deshi, I want to do this becuase that would be the best time in my life to actually do it. I am both a US and Costa Rican citizen. I know it might apear that it is a bit early to start looking at this opt, but I want to start planning.
If any of you have any advice or info I would greatly apreciatte it!!
Thanx, and Regard to all
Gabriel

Re: Advice.... for future reference.

Well, in my opinion it really depends on the importance of these factors...but I'd suggest going to Japan and studying to get your degree and taking classes at a dojo there...then becoming an uchi deshi after that if you really want to...

But that's just my opinion...

Re: Advice.... for future reference.

Perhaps this is not going to be a very common or popular view, but having trained in both Japan and in the States, I would say you should take advantage of your U.S. citizenship and train in the states - where I felt the level of Aikido practice was higher, more developed, and deeper (especially at the schools that act as centers for other schools - e.g. New York, San Diego, etc.). I did not do my higher education in Japan, but I'm pretty sure you can find some decent MBA programs here in the States as well.

two cents,
dmv

Of course I am speaking generally, and I am also considering the difficulties with long-term visas.

Re: Advice.... for future reference.

Well Gabriel, if you do end up going to Japan, and if you end up staying in the Kansai area, please re-contact me again because I still have good friends there that can easily get you going on the training circuit. You can always get my email address from the contact link at our web site.

Good luck,
dmv
