This is Meditation 13 and 37, respectively, in the book entitled "Kung Fu Meditations" by Ellen Kei Hua.

While these are Chinese proverbs, the themes appear universal. It is a great little book, and I recommended it to anyone interested in spiritual books.

I thought it was Archimedes who said something to the effect of, "Give me a lever long enough and I will move the world."
