Aikido in North East Wisconsin

Good evening, I have a question that I was hoping you guys could answer.

I have been researching martial arts for a long time, and my search has ended with Aikido as being the form I wish to practice. I am extremely interested, but I cannot seem to find a dojo in my area (the Fox Cities area of Wisconsin). I was wondering if there are any dojos in the area and if they have some way I could contact them.

Thank you for your time,
Sam

The nearest dojo the dojo search turned up was in Green Bay, but the link was broken. You might contact Aikido of Madison (great folks!) to see if they have any advice.

Might be a drive, but it exists.

You have 3 schools all a little bit of a drive. Green Bay Aikido, Aikido of Northern Wisconsin in Merrill and and Ki Nagare Dojo in Marshfield (me). You can decide what is closer and contact me through our web site (www.kndojo.com), and I would be happy to help connect you with any of the schools.

Hi Sam,

I'm a former member of the Kenosha Aikikai, and am currently in Milwaukee. You might try contacting the Midwest Aikido Federation at 630-207-4071. You can ask if the Green Bay Dojo is still up and running.

That would be the closest mainstream affiliated Aikido dojo that I am aware of. There are a couple of other dojo(s) floating around a little further away, but I'm not familiar with them.

Re: Aikido in North East Wisconsin

I was invited to a seminar in Green Bay last Spring, so I am a little surprised to see all their web links broken. I sent them an email, but haven’t reached them yet.

I would recommend you visit each dojo mentioned. Then you can determine if you can handle the trip regularly and if you fit in with the class.

The schools I mention are not affiliated with each other, but we all get along (we are all family up north). It is all what vintage you prefer to practice regularly.

Green Bay is still open, they are just having trouble with their web site.

Also, accept the idea that if you're going to live in the sticks, you'll have to do a lot of driving to get your training in.

In the OP's defense, the Appleton region ain't exactly the sticks.

If you say so.

Y'know, around here, when they say someone's from east Oshkosh, they don't mean he's from the bustling center of civilization :-)

I'm from the Appleton area too. Not much around here for Aikido. There's an aiki-bujutsu (i think that's how it's spelled) at the darboy YMCA. Originals used to have an Aikido class there, but the sensei moved away a few years ago and left a senior student to teach the class. Green Bay Aikido is a good place to train. I trained with them for a couple of months. The sensei a really nice guy. I'd love to get back in to it if I had the time.

Re: Aikido in North East Wisconsin

Hi - I am from Green Bay Aikikai and I just wanted to let this thread know we're alive and well. Our domain registration expired and we couldn't get into the account to transfer to another registrar, so finally had to go to a new domain. We're now at gbaikido.com. @ Kevin, thanks for the kind words for our Sensei. He is a nice guy and also has practiced for 45 years, so has amazing technique. Total control of uke without any harshness.

I am from Oshkosh and when I was there for a Lourdes H.S. Reunion, I couldn't find anywhere to work out either. I guess Oshkosh hasn't heard about aikido. You might try the U of Wisc @ Oshkosh and maybe they'll have a club there.
