"Banyu" means "All things" (as in "everything in the universe") and "hatten" means "develop" or "build up". So I suppose that you might say "Universal Development", but there may well be a more elegant way to say it .

Best,

Chris

This is the style of Aikido I practice, name was suggested by the Japanese embassy in the UK, apparently Sensei had thought up a few names and asked them about it, they suggested Banyu Hatten, and thats where the name comes from.

Chris's translation "Universal Development" is what we use pretty much day to day if someone asks us about what it means.

Cheers
