Question Unusual Hakama

Hi,

I'm new here and though I don't study Aikido because no one teaches near me, I hope to someday. I have studied Jujutsu for many years, and see many similarities.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with any information about where I could find a black and white vertically striped hakama?

Thank you very much.

Jon

Hello,

Mugendo Budogu sells a specialty Hakama which appears to be black and white vertically striped. The web site address is
www.mugendobudogu.com

The information on the site states that this Hakama is worn during the traditional sword dance known as "Kenbu". I hope this helps you out. Have a good day!

You could also take a look at:

http://tozando.com/eng/iaido/hakama.html

Please note, that a Iaido hakama probably might not be good for aikido-practice since it is sometimes a 'slimmer'.

Another possibility would be to make one yourself if you can find a fabric of your liking. You can buy a pattern from
http://www.round-earth.com
and somewhere on this site you can find a few tips of how to alter the pattern to make it perfect for Aikido-purpose.

Hope this helps.

Unusual Hakama

Hi, Jon. I have just such a hakama, satiny ivory at the top with self-coloured ties, shading gradually to black at the bottom, with very fine shiny vertical stripes. I have been told that it sounds like a "wedding-hakama" which makes it a man's garment, but I DON'T CARE 'cos it's beautiful! The interesting thing is that while it looks like a hakama but is effectively a skirt. I bought it at Kyoto Handicraft Centre about a year ago, in their 2nd-hand/Antique Kimono section, and they have a Website, so you might want to contact them. Good Luck !
