Re: Information on Katsumi Niikura

Hi Jun,

He was briefly mentioned a while back in this thread
http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/showth...hlight=niikura

It probably doesn't help much since no one was able to find much about him other than what's on his website. Just thought I'd mention it.

Rgds

Bryan

A difficult problem is easily solved by asking yourself the question, "Just how would the Lone Ranger handle this?"

Hey Jun,

I don't think you'll remember me, but I visited your dojo a couple of times 2 or 3 years ago (tall, skinny, red hair from Detroit). Katsumi Niikura is my sensei. If your looking for info, the best place to look is the web site www.ryokukai.com

You'll find the contact info there. From what I remember, your nihon-go is excellent. His english is broken and hard to understand some times, but feel free to give the dojo a call and ask for him(speak japanese with him, he'll appreciate it!!)

Nate

Re: Information on Katsumi Niikura

What is his affiliation with the Aikikai? Who did he study under in aikido? If he is affiliated with Hombu, what is his registration number with Hombu? Where is his Dan rank through! Lineage is the question. Just because he is Japanese and makes claims about his background does not make hi the real thing!

All the information on the website does not give any foot notes or way to verify what he is claiming.

Re: Information on Katsumi Niikura

The video claims he is a shihan but the site does not say in what or anything about his rank or lineage. In fact, most of the information by year seems to be about karate ranks.

Re: Information on Katsumi Niikura

Wow, touchy subject Johnny? No, he is not affilitated with the Hombu so he does not have a registration number. He studied there in the late 60's early 70's. I know that he had to meet with Osensei before he could start because that is how it was done while Osensei was still in charge. When he left the Hombu, he did not want to open, or teach an aikikai school. He wanted to teach karate and aikido. I don't think he wanted anything to do with the politics at the time either. I directed Jun to call him because he could get much more out of a conversation than I could ever hope to because he speaks Japanese!! Then Jun could post what he found out and his view point.
