A Jean-Claude Van Damme Cinematic Retrospective

This isn't aikido but it's close enough for any government I'll ever work for. I find this guy to be one of the funniest reads around and he went through, ALL, of the Van Damme movies.

Enjoy!

Now I'm seriously worried. Could it be the reason I like his movies is his butt.

He's an action star - with a background in ballet and weight lifting. Personally I'ld rather watch his escapist movies than Segal's escapist movies although you will catch me renting both.

Speaking of renting movies, last night I got Black Diamonds with Jet Li. In the out takes Mr. Li was talking about the fight scene with the UFC guys. He basically said that in real life these guys would have him for lunch. He too is an actor and in many ways Wushu is closer to ballet than fighting. Very few are capable of doing both. Dolf is the closest you can get.

Some people have WAY too much time on their hand. First of all - who would spend so many hours watching JCVD-films ?

LMAO! Great article

The funny thing is, that not more than two weeks ago, a friend of mine and I were watching the quest, laughing our asses off

This is my favorite part :According to The Internet Movie Database, "[Jean-Claude's] fight scenes are so intense that he won't film them in the U.S. for fear of being sued." That means that either Jean-Claude is spending his evenings spreading awesome rumors about himself online, or there's a Society Against the Intensity of American Fight Scenes that secretly runs our action film industry.

Hey, that's our national pride you guys are laughing with! Yes, I'm from Belgium too. But seriously... I know some of his movies aren't that good but you have to admit there are much worse actors than him.

Worse actors, maybe (have you seen the American Ninja series?)

But MUCH worse actors might be pushing it a bit.

I think Jet Li is an ex champion of the Beijing Wushu team, the majority (if not all)of what he uses on the screen is Wushu-Traditional Chinese Martial Arts.

In the movie "The One" he showed a nice example of Xing Yi Chuan and Ba Gua Zhang side by side, yang and yin styles respectively.

Just 2 cents.

"Black Diamonds" = "Cradle 2 the Grave" (in the US, at least). The UFC guys were Randy Couture, Chuck Lidell and Tito Ortiz.

*suddenly realizes that was a geek check*

er, so I've heard....

FWIW, my favorite Jet Li films are "Fist of Legend" and "Bodyguard from Beijing".

Paul
