Boxing the gold old defensive type. That should help you with distance and reaction time.

i am thinking Mime. nobody is going to attack you if you are in your invisible box. ok, dogs might lift a leg on you. cats will try to be in the box with you or not, depends on its quantum state. squirrels might bury some nuts on your in your pants, if stay inside the box too long.

another art that i am thinking is Clown. have you watch It? clowns are scary, ask any kid.

last would be running. or was that first which is in the 36th Chinese tactics? either way, running is good. running away would be much better. don't forget, when you run away, don't look back or you will trip on your feet, stuffs on the ground and so on. happened in the movies all the time. focus on the to, since you already know what is at the from (lets see anyone know this reference)

Boxing.
A good way of putting yourself under pressure.
You will learn how to take a hit and continue fighting.
Boxers learn how to use the whole body when throwing a punch.
Timing, distance & reaction.

Re: best arts to cross train with aikido

I have had success with Kali as the movements are flowing and really seem to fit well with my aikido. Jujutsu as well. Boxing seems like a solid addition as well so that one can learn to deal with more realistic punches than are typically taught in traditional martial arts. However- I strive to end a physical confrontation quickly and not box them per se.
