We have it here in Malaysia, but you're probably better off finding the ancient masters in India i suppose if you want the original thingey.
They say it originated from Southern India as early as 6th and 7th century. And i suppose at that time it was practised by the Kesatrias.. or the warrior caste.
It actually means "battlefield practice". And generally there are two distinct styles, the northern and southern. Northern style is more filled with high jumps, kicks, long strides and low stances. They also have weapons and yoga style practice. Southern style is more circular, and arms are used with open hands and bent, high stances, stronger way of moving.
Its not all kicking and boxing though. They also incorporate grappling techniques and pressure points technique which are only taught to trusted students.
Hope that helps. Btw, its pretty energetic. I'm not sure if its suitable for everyone.
