Today is a day of bliss for me as an artist, for my 115 hour painting project is now posted on www.aikidojournal.com. I hope you will take a look at the piece and enjoy it.

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
Nice! The link to a larger version isn't working for me...do you have an updated link? I'd like to see the larger version.
Thanks,
Ron

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
Ron, thank you. I actually do not have a link to it as of yet. Sometime in the near future I may get a link so I can demonstrate a larger photo, and see if there's a market for wrapped canvas prints. On aikidojournal.com, be sure to click "Download" instead of the name of the file. I started out clicking on the filename and that didn't work. Also, it is a quality photo, but not as good as some photos I have. I will save those to show what prints will look like if I feel there's a market in the near future.

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
Wow Drew really nice work! What medium did you use?
I was able to use Quicktime picture viewer to see the larger image. I use Firefox as my web browser though. Not sure if IE will work the same way.

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
Thank you, Cherie. I used oil paint on smooth portrait Fredrix canvas. I used combinations of ten colors:
Soft Mixing White
Payne's Gray
Permanent Alzarin Crimson
Cobalt Blue Hue
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Cadmium Yellow Light
Burnt Sienna
Burnt Umber
Vermillion Hue
Yellow Ochre
I am so glad to hear positive feedback of my piece.

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
I used to paint in oils but I changed over to acrylics. Mostly I do landscapes and horse portraits. People are much harder for me to get.
You did a good job getting the serenity on Nage's face as she helps Uke to the mat. She almost appears to be smiling. While you can also see the intensity in Uke's eyes. A lot of detail in a painting that might appear simple on first glance.

Ron, I have a larger image you can see by clicking on my signature link. This goes for everyone, since this is my favorite image of the painting.

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
The surface for my next painting is thin canvas on wood. I plan on priming it today. While my shihonage painting is 20 x 24", this will be an 11 x 14" block. Knowing I'll have to do much detail with little room, I bought a round and a bright (short flat) brush with almost invisible bristles. The painting will be martial arts related.
Yesterday I posted news that I hope will soon make it to the Aikiweb front page. I have ordered a small batch of Giclee Gallery Wrap stretched canvas prints of my completed painting. These satin finished, UV protected prints are the most premium on the market. Earning a minor reinvestment profit per print, I am selling them for $100 with free shipping.
If someone is considering purchasing a print, please private message me. I will answer questions there.
Whether or not you are interested in a print, I would like to thank everyone on this thread, as well as my other friends and family, for being so supportive during this exciting time.

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
Thank you, Clark. I've got another one in the works. I'm about to prime it with turpentine and yellow ochre right now.

Re: My Painting on Aikido Journal
Oh, I hope you all realize I know how difficult it is to separate from a c-note. Even if I chose less expensive prints, they would have to be framed for a substantial extra cost, and still wouldn't be as nice. Since they are expensive, I have no clue how many Aikidoka will want to buy. I already am extremely happy that Aikido Journal chose to publish this, and anything else would be an extra bonus. I should be back down to Earth by tomorrow, commenting on threads like I love to do among you all.
