I asked the students if they'd be there if I had class. Two of them said yes, and that was good enough for me. I don't need barbecue anyway

Just got back from our class. Our senior student taught. Our main teacher was taking the day off since he just got back from two back-to-back week-long summer camps that he taught at. He's usually not here on the 4th of July (because one of those camps usually includes the holiday) so he's spending the day with his family.

I did... a 2 hour class in GA heat... the AC was broken... it was about 90 some degrees in there, but we did 2 hours of basics and randori. Man, all of us were sapped by the end of that.

Lightbulb Independence Day

July 4th? December 25th? January 1st? May 5th? March 15? These are but dates on a calendar. We get presents on some of them which is fun, or get to take a day off school/work, but is there that much else to them? I dunno. What I do know is that any day I feel I've had a productive aikido workout is an independence day for me. Leaving the dojo, I no longer have the grim reaper (Fear) as my guide, and this is true liberation in my calendar.

By the way, I just had squid sushi for the first time today (ika I think it's called). It was frightenengly delicious. Yakiniku is the single greatest food in existance, w/o a doubt. I saved my seaweed salad for desert, but I'm not sure if it will misogi (cleanse) my palette. 8).

Drew-waza (that isn't supposed to make any sense, my posts are kind of free writes.)

hara-kiri for the fear-mongers,
sushi-waza for the peace-makers.
