worth seeing the doshu?

Hello there. I'm a newbie here and in Aikido (only had about nearly a year in Aikido so far). I live in Singapore and my club just got news that the doshu was invited over by Aikikai to our country to hold a three day seminar.

Now the problem is that the seminar costs $250. That's quite a lot to me as a student and I'm not sure if it's worth paying for. Then again, the last time the doshu came here was 20 years ago. He passed away and the doshu coming here is a new one... I don't know anything about him.

So has anyone here had the experience of meeting with the doshu? If so, is it worth it to go for the 3 day seminar? I would really love to go, but I really would would hate to part with the cash.

Yes, it is worth it. But if money is tight, maybe you can find out which day Doshu will teach and go on that day only?

Pretty pricey, last time I saw Doshu outside of Japan it was free :-). Doshu has nice clean Aikido, but I probably wouldn't pay $250 for a weekend seminar - you'd get a better (and cheaper) view on video, and the chances are that you won't get much actual contact with him anyway with the crowds at that type of event.

Best,

Chris

Well thanks for the feedback... I guess I'll have to forego the seminar or I'll have to go look for work that really pays... darn I'm doing lots of stuff for school without getting paid this vacation
