Re: Yokosuka/Yokohama Dojos
Jory,
If interested, there are Yoshinkan Aikido dojo's in both Yokosuka and Yokohama. In Yokohama, there is a school at the YMCA. I personally know one of the godan instructors. They are part of Terada Sensei's organization. Terada Sensei has been with the Yoshinkan since before there was a Yoshinkan. He currently is the most senior of all our instructors. He also teaches in Totsuka which is about 30-40 minutes by sub/train.
See http://www.seikeikan.com/Links.htm for dojo locations and contact information.
Good luck.

Re: Yokosuka/Yokohama Dojos
I suggest Takeda Yoshinobu Shihan's group - Shonan Aikido Renmei ( http://www.aikidonetworks.org/sar/ho...totsuka-e.html ) Has dojo all over the greater Yokohama (and Shonan) area; main dojo in Higashi Totsuka. His organization Aikido Kenkyukai International (AKI) has dojo in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and USA. My website also has some info: www.aikidokenkyukaipennsylvania.org
(Higashi Totsuka is a Yokohama suburb a couple of stops south from Yokohama Station, maybe 10 minutes.) Please e-mail me if I can help. Have a great time!

Re: Yokosuka/Yokohama Dojos
Hopefully you've had a chance to train with Doug Hanson Sensei in Ponca. If not, make the trip before you leave. He's awesome.
While here, check out Aikikai and Yoshikan dojos. I'm really impressed with Yoshikan. At first, it looked a bit stiff but, after watching the shodan and above, I became a believer. Good stuff and, like Sensei Hanson's classes, very real Aikido ;-)

Takeshi IIda Sensei in Yokosuka is one of the best there is. He founded Doumukai Aikido. Email me if you would like more information.

Re: Yokosuka/Yokohama Dojos
Well, it was last June when I started this thread and I finally have my tickets and packed bags. I'm headed over on the 18th. Butterflies!
Iida Sensei teaches at Thew Gym in yokosuka. Does anyone know how civilians get on base to train at the gym?
Does anyone know if anything new (aikido related) has been going on in the area since June?
Thanks again,
Jory
p.s.
If anyone wants to meet for kaiten zushi or kaiten nage, let me know!

Re: Yokosuka/Yokohama Dojos
Jory,
Following my experience with other students of Yamaguchi sensei (Nakao sensei and Endo sensei ), I'd be be heading straight for Takeda sensei if I was anywhere near close.

A difficult problem is easily solved by asking yourself the question, "Just how would the Lone Ranger handle this?"

I must say, I like what I see there. If I get the job, you can bet I'll be paying Takeda sensei's dojo a visit.
