Rendez-Vous with Adventure
I just watched Rendez-Vous with Adventure, a 1958 film with O'Sensei. Does anyone know who the instructors are that the film-maker keeps mentioning in the video? I was curious if they were any of the "greats" in the Aikido world today.
Sorry if this has already been asked.

Re: Rendez-Vous with Adventure
Mr. Hanson,
Tohei Koichi Shihan and Ueshiba Kisshomaru Doshu are the instructors that are being referred to...Unfortunately both are no longer with us.
Train well,
Mickey

He may have turned over the presidency of Ki Society to his son, but Tohei Sensei is still quite alive.

My apologies...I thought Tohei Shihan passed away last year, again my sincerest apologies.

Re: Rendez-Vous with Adventure
Reports of his death have indeed been somewhat exaggerated. I was reading an article in a MA magazine just the other day, wherein there was a vintage picture of the instructor on whose bio the article was based, eating dinner with Koichi Tohei. The caption of the photo referred to him as "the late Tohei Sensei"... A friend who is a longtime direct student of Tohei Sensei, and visits with him at least yearly, reports that, although wheelchair-bound these days, Tohei Sensei is indeed still very sharp.

Oh, good to know.
For those of you who haven't seen the video, it is quite interesting. I enjoyed seeing the footage of O'Sensei.

I think being in a wheelchair after a lifetime of training would be a difficult thing to endure. I sometimes worry that my old bones will not allow me to train until my death.

Ricky,
There is plenty you can do from a seated position. Your butt cheeks are just as capable of establishing a route/root to the ground as your legs are.
I wonder whether Tohei still trains, in that respect. Sagawa was reputed to have been able to throw his students around even when he was lying on his deathbed.
