Rik Ellis - Aikido - MMA - R.I.P
I appreciate that some members of Aikiweb may not be fans of MMA - this message is an update for all the people that messaged me and were so kind after the loss of my son Rik just seven months ago.
Rik's son `Jay Dods` ( Ellis ) is 20 years of age - he turned professional mma just before Rik's death - Jay like his father started Aikido at the age of four - you may not see much Aikido in his fights, but you will see relaxation and composure and his kicking is as taught by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei to me, and down the line to Rik and Jay.
Jay with six straight wins - and just like his father Rik he has won all his fights in the first round - This attached link is his most recent and sixth consecutive win against the Brazilian grappler Victor Silva.

I am a big MMA can and I really enjoyed that fight. Your grandson has some nasty ground n pound and very good submission defense.
Does he have any ambition of moving to North America to train with one of the elite MMA gyms?

Hi Tim
Jay made a promise to Rik that he would do everything he could to make it to the US - He has been invited to train in NM where I have taught Aikido over many years - he is getting a lot of attention, so I am not sure what his next decision will be, he is a very bright and intelligent young man, I am sure he will make the right decisions.
.
You may like one of his earlier devastating knockouts.

By 'NM' are you referring to New Mexico? That's where the Jackson-WinkleJohn gym (aka Greg Jackson ) is located, which as I am sure you are aware is one of the top MMA gym in the world right now.....

Just watched that 2nd video you posted....that was one brutal head kick!
Your grandson has such a baby face and looks like he doesn't belong in the cage with these guys. But then he comes out and dominates his competition....I love it.

Henry, MMA is not my thing, but just wanted to say it is good to see your post and to know that another generation of Ellis' is carrying on the family martial arts - must do your heart good.

Yes - It is New Mexico, down Alamogordo way and Rio Rancho with my senior student Dave Rogers who has recently moved to Arkansas.
I know Eddy DeLuca in NM and he had invited Rik over last year.

Re: Rik Ellis - Aikido - MMA - R.I.P
It has been a while since I visited Aikiweb. The first thread that caught my eye is this one.
Very sorry to hear about Rik's passing. Please accept my belated condolences.

In a real fight:
* If you make a bad decision, you die.
* If you don't decide anything, you die.
Aikido teaches you how to decide.

Thank you for your kind words, I really do appreciate them - it has taken a long time to get the computer kick started again as I try to come to terms with the loss of Rik.
