angry white pyjamas

just got a book for christmas tells the true story of an english bloke living in a flat in japan hes basically a bit of a looser and so are his flatmates and wants to get fit
they all take up aikido and he joins the riot police course which is meant to be really grueling
just made me want to train full time
but the way they train sounds very hard
to toughen them up etc
i can see the benefits of stenthening the body etc but is it worth it for the damage they encounter and are some of the mental elements overlooked?

just made me want to do the same
train and develop as much as i can

Re: angry white pyjamas

Actually, I think the mental aspects are probably the hardest part of the course, from what I've heard.

Best,
Ron

Re: angry white pyjamas

The way they train IS hard, and a great way to learn aikido. In a year of training in aikido you won't learn more anywhere else.

As for mental aspects, what mental aspects are you going to learn in a year somewhere else. You learn aikido by doing it, not chatting, reading or lecturing about it.

Damage? hmm. what damage? its hard training and people get injured. What you read was a personal memoir. It was writen to sell and not everything was exactly as it was writen. Memories get jumbled, writers take certian liberties, and some things sound more exciting when they are more dangerous.

That being said why not train full time. The course continues and starts in April.
