Re: Another Video Prison Attack.

With what? Correctional officers aren't armed inside the security perimeter normally. It is very, very rare for firearms to be introduced inside a correctional facility.

Aaahhh, that's what the big whooshing sound was........me missing the joke. I'm a LOT more fun at funerals - I seldom miss the jokes there. I'm just going to have to stop taking ukemi on my head.

Re: Another Video Prison Attack.

This sort of incident is becoming more prevelant in correctional facilities. Just a few weeks ago, a prisoner appearing at trial in our county courthouse (Fulton County, Georgia) assaulted his bailiff, took her weapon, and shot the presiding judge and stenographer. He then shot another officer escaping from the building and attempting to flee the city. He then shot another officer (FBI I think) shortly before being captured. It took police, FBI and GBI officers almost 1 full day to catch the guy.

Did I mention this prisoner was on trial for a violent crime? Did I mention that officers found shanks on this prisoner just days before the escape? Did I mention that some jurors choose not be sit in the courtroom because this prisioner had made threatening gestures and was intimidating the jurors?

Oh, and did I mention that the prisoner was not shackled because the judge did not want to bias the jury by showing the defendant hancuffed?

I respect and admire those individuals that are police officers and corrections officers. They are put in situations that most people would avoid at all costs. They are underpaid, under-equipped, and under-prepared. And when they fail, people can die.

Re: Another Video Prison Attack.

That was a terrible tragedy for many. I still wonder what the original deputy was doing going into a holding cell with a firearm on. That is something that is so basic a principle and apparently overlooked.

I'm was scratching my head on that one as well Michael.

He was charged with rape and a few others dealing with a violent crime
He showed a strong disdain towards females
He was caught in possession of home made weapons

And they did a single person escort
No waist chains, No Black Box, No rack belt, no shackels,

Basic rule of Law Enforcement - To Protect and To Serve, sometimes the hardest question can be resolved with the simplest answer.

Re: Another Video Prison Attack.

I am a Youth Worker in a youth correctional setting. I can tell you first hand the Prison Guard probably reacted the way he was trained. I am a daily member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) in or building and in the past 8 years I have received one day of actual training in regards to dealing with acting out offenders. And that was after doing the job for four years
This is the first reason I decided to learn a Martial Art. After doing some research I found Aikido would best fit my personality but still provide the training I was looking for. I have lobbying for more training and this video may be just what I need to get the point across.

Peace!
