Aikido DVD

Hey all, my nephew has been asking me lots of questions about Aikido lately as he is looking for something to do after his Judo centre closed down. I want to get him some books or DVDs so he can learn a bit more about it before making a decision and also so that he mom can watch it with him. I have been checking with the libraries around both where I live and where he lives and they don't really have anything worth getting. There are some shops I have talked to but they are all quite far away so I thought I would ask on here is anyone has some to spare or know of somewhere that I could get them sent from first. Looking for any kind of videos really, whether they discus training, spirituality or weapon training although I think he would most enjoy learning about weapon training as most teenagers would

Re: Aikido DVD

Your best bet is to get him something that's typical of the training that would be available to him if he were to start training. Your dojo is USAF affiliated, so I would look for DVDs put out by USAF instructors.

Re: Aikido DVD

I have asked around at the dojo but maybe not the right people so I might mention it again next time I am there. Trying to find some USAF DVDs online and most of them either quite expensive or the shipping is crazy expensive but I will keep looking. Cheers.

Re: Aikido DVD

You can find a lot of Aikido on YouTube. I didn't say a lot of good Aikido, but for a beginner or someone just trying to get an idea of what Aikido is about - it will save you some money.

The Aikido Journal has quite a bit of content as well - those instructors are well vetted, but you will see some variety in their Aikido. It is an art.......

As for DVD's - stick to the style that he is studying - or what his instructor might recommend.

Thank you for your suggestions guys, I was able to ask at my dojo last night about what Aikido DVDs they would recommend and they gave me a list to look for, as well as loaned me a set of theirs. I was going to give my nephew the first couple of DVDs that they gave me and and see what he thought of it before trying to get the other ones that I was told about. Thanks again for the tips guys.
