Grr! Blegh...Aikido vs. <insert violent MA>

Okay, one of my friends has asked a question concerning Aikido. He asked what kind of effectiveness aikido has against boxing/wrestling and quick jabs. I will begin Aikido within the next week, but since I do not have a great understanding of the capabilities of the art, I would like to know how Aikido hold up against these attacks from other martial arts.
