Been busy for a while
Hi All, After an absence of 13 years I've decided to return to Aikido, mostly due to an expanding waistline ( I think I've misunderstood a concept?), stiff knee, bad back and the desire to fulfil a goal I set in earlier life.
I like the forum, there are many interesting topics of discussion to keep ones interest and the links to videos are an eye opener. I love the early postings of Gozo Shioda, his mischievous spirit shines through.
I think I have found a club to restart practice at, everyone seems friendly and the vibe feels good, they even let me try a few very rusty Ukemi (mat Atemi 3 Robin 0). I could not resist and a few Tai Sabaki followed hmm, stand up not bad, fall down not good, much to do and looking forward to training tomorrow.

Good luck getting up that first hill.. once you get your body back in gear it should become easier so stick to it. Wish you a world of good times on the mat

Re: Been busy for a while
Hi Folks
Thank you for the encouraging words of welcome.
Mary, I did, and intend to continue to do so. What is the world without some fun?
Jurgen, boy was it hard going (physically for me) the mind was willing but the body not. Everyone I practiced with was very understanding. Sensei Bob asked me at the end if it all came flooding back, I had to admit it was more of a trickle.
Returning Friday for more fun.

Sensei Bob - is that Bob Sherrington? If so, say 'hi' from one of Ray Munns' guys ...Nice collective of people, wait until you meet Aubrey (if you have not already done so!)

Re: Been busy for a while
Hi Phillip
Yes it is Bob Sherrington, I'll pass on your 'hi'.
I have met Aubrey briefly, many moons ago at the old Unitarian Church hall in Northampton, he nearly ripped my head off demonstrating irimi nage to a student that was having difficulty (as I was holding centre), so I chose to ukemi to go with his flow (?) and he had to go with me.
As I said long time ago, I'm sure his technique has much improved and I hope "softened". I think he could easily rip my head off now if it hasn't.
I'll stick with Bob and crew at Kettering. Aubrey, you have my appologies if you are still affiliated with Bob. Just let me know if I need to skip a night

Re: Been busy for a while
I have not seen or met Aubrey for years - since before my second kyu I think when I popped I to his club in Irchester ... met Bob briefly before this at a martial arts taster day with Simon Smith (also of the IBC). Since Ray retired I have lost contact with them all. The aikido world is quite small in Nothants / north Bucks ...
For Aubrey I am inclined to agree with your sentiments, but he is very old guard ... And ain't all that bad.

Re: Been busy for a while
Nicolas Welcome back to you too, take it easy!
I thought I had got off lightly Wednesday as the next day the body did not feel to bad, today moving very slowly and boy do my leg and neck muscles ache. I know it will get better but my focus will be adjusting my breakfalls to allow for my knee. Long ago were the days when I could come right back at you. Now you can throw me and go and make a cup of tea before I can attack again. I don't mind as long as you make me one while your at it
