Hyper extended elbow

I think I hyper extended my left elbow while receiving a Rokyo eight days ago. It still hurts like hell when I fully extended my arm.

Did anyone here suffer a similar injury? I am curious about the expected recovery time and if there are other possible complications.

regards,
Daniel

Re: Hyper extended elbow

Get it evaluated by an orthopedic doctor as soon as possible.

Re: Hyper extended elbow

Both of my elbow have been hype extended. I got the best results from an Acupuncturist (who was also a martial artist and Aikidoka).
He helped in both healing and stopping the pain.

While I will never have perfectly straight arm again at least I can train and have no pain. You will have to train a little differnly now and learn to alway protect you arms and elbows. Otherwise you'll be injured again and have to re-heal all over agin.

Best of luck to you.

Re: Hyper extended elbow

Been there, done that! Five years ago, when my daughters were still training, My oldest one did an ikkyo pin and slightly got over zealous. It was close to six months before the pain went completely away. I still went to training but did not attack with my right hand for a while til I got better. Get it checked out by a doctor.

Re: Hyper extended elbow

Yes, get it evaluated! And be patient with healing process, as even a minor sprain or strain takes 6-8 weeks to really heal on cellular level and until then is very prone to re-injury.

Re: Hyper extended elbow

Thanks for the replies. IŽll definitely check it out with a doctor. Might as well check my (probably) broken ring finger and pinky toe. They have being given me grief for over a year.

Daniel

Re: Hyper extended elbow

+1 to Janet, mine's still there (although faintly) after a couple years. Fairly easy to manage with a bit of extra stretching though.

If they were broken over a year ago, then there isn't much you can do for them unless the doctor breaks them again.

Re: Hyper extended elbow

Go to a specialist if you can afford it. Along with muscle strain, you could have ligament, tendon or cartilage damage.

I've always had issued with my elbows because of 100 or so impacts from skateboarding. I recently had an MRI done and they found at least 4 floating chips of bone in there.

I doubt you have that but it is possible. Pretty painful when the chips get lodged between stuff.
