How often should one "push and persevere" physically in aikido?

  • Always
  • Often

Here are the current results.

It depends if you mean endurance wise, or against pain from your joints. Pushing endurance is good, but forcing your joints is a BAD IDEA no matter how old you are. Strained shoulder+ office job+ no health insurance = weeks of pain.

I don't think it is implied to endure pain, but to find a way to practice. When pain becomes a constant reminder, it is best to pause and find another movement.

In gassho,
Mark

I read that as in, muscle through a technique. Kinda funny how many ways to read a "simple" sentence.

You'd be surprised at how much aikido philosophy you can pick up on at the end of the party when there's just a couple drunk sempai and you.

Re: Poll: How often should one "push and persevere" physically in aikido?

it's a pretty ambiguous sentence.
do they mean, push mentally? push physically? are they talking vaguely, as in, "I was practicing 5 times a week and decided to push and persevere though I thought it was a bit much" or as in, "We were doing this super nasty breakfall and I'm 80 with brittle hips, but I decided to push and persevere"

I have a vote of no confidence in this poll.
