First ACNJ Aikido International Friendship Seminar

Posted 2010-10-08 13:54:02 by Greg O'Connor

A big thank you to all who helped make our first ACNJ "Ai Seminar" (Aikido International Friendship Seminar) this past weekend a success beyond words.

The entire event, both on and off the mat, simply glowed beyond adequate description. For all who had the good fortune to be in attendance it was a wonderfully full weekend (and more!) of great training (6 classes/day) combined with the joy and laughter of buoyant people, practice, potlucks and parties.

My deepest thanks also to my friends Senseis Jorge Rojo Guttierez from Chile, Nelson Requena from Venezuela, Daniel Lance from France, Wilkon Vriesman from the Netherlands and special guest Francis Takahashi Shihan for their friendship and commitment, as well as the support from friends and dojo-cho from across the US and across the oceans.

This sure-to-be-repeated seminar was the most enriching event I have ever had the privilege of being a part of and I look forward to all the positive results that are sure to follow.

Most sincerely,

Greg O'Connor

Re: First ACNJ Aikido International Friendship Seminar

Congratulations to all who attended this historic event, expressing their faith in the power of Aiki thinking and acting for mutual benefits from honest training with new ideas and partners.

This is another example of sincere people of Aiki, in encouraging each other to cross over imaginary and arbitrary boundaries for the sake of training for mutual enrichment and expansion of experiences.

Perhaps begun with Stan Pranin's legendary Aiki Expos, augmented with Hiroshi Ikeda's Bridge seminars in San Diego, there appears to be a growing interest in cross training, not only in other martial disciplines, but amongst seemingly divergent Aikido systems as well.

This is an important wake up call to Aikido leaders of all stripes, to encourage their students to support local, regional and larger venues, with instructors of their choosing, for the betterment of their students' training experience and growth.

We are all winners here!

Congrats to O'Connor Sensei, ACNJ, the instructors, and attendees. I've heard nothing but high praise for this event and I look forward to being on the mat with you all next year!
It's a great time for aikido in the US and abroad.
