The journey begins with the first step

Hello everyone. I am new to this post and thought I would introduce myself. I have been training in the Jiyushinkai under sensei Jim Hanna. I enjoy aikido I find it to be a very spiritual art much more so than the Karate I have taken in the past. I will admit that at times it has been a difficult road to walk, the art of effecting uke's center, creating an off ballance, and listening to uke by touch are at times difficult at best. Yet I have faith and determination! A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step.

Hi Brian,

I've met Jim in the past; he's a good guy and knows his stuff. Welcome to the AikIWeb Forums!

My favorites:

"A technique will unfold /eventually/..."

http://www.despair.com/hazards.html
"Yes, it /is/ possible to blend with that, but..."

http://www.despair.com/limitations.html
For the beginner who's /too/ cheery about the whole shoshin thing...

For the dope who keeps advocating 5-person randori with real knives.

<Student> "So, uh, would you say this is more of a triangular motion uniting fire with wind, or a sort of tidal pattern that unites sword and universe?"
<Sensei> "...shomen-uchi ikkajo. Hajime."

For the new shodan, fifth kyu shihan, et al.

Just blend!

Paul, I would have to say this is an accurate depiction of me being caught by sensei Hanna's sumi otoshi last night.

Re: The journey begins with the first step

Jun thanks, sensei Hanna is great teacher. I find him to be an inspiration, I am about a foot taller and 80 lbs heavier. Yes I believe size and strength do not play a part in aikido.
