The Basics
Hi everyone,
So... In twenty-five words or less:
What would you consider to be "The Basics" in your own approach to aikido?

Hi all,
The basics we would practice on in the Yoshinkai are:
1.)Tai no henkou ichi
2.)Tai no henkou ni
3.)Hiriki no yousei ichi
4.)Hiriki no yousei ni
5.)Shumatsu dosa ichi
6.)Shumatsu dosa ni
Also we focus on kamae:
1.)Migi hanmi no kamae
2.)Hidari hanmi no kamae
These are the basic movements that we practice on continuously. These basic movements can be found in all aikido movements. These movements really help to build a strong foundation focusing on power, balance, kuzushi, etc. Its pretty cool stuff.

in the chinese arts the answer would be feet, because if the feet are wrong, how can the rest of the body be right? and from what i've seen, aikido is no different
|
Aikido: a martial art which allows you to defeat your enemy without hurting him, unless of course he doesn't know how to breakfall in which case he will shatter every bone in his body when he lands. Also known as Origami with people

1) Kamai
2) Kihon Dosa
These are the basics - the foundations - on which you build technique, Jiyu Waza (like randori, if you are unfamiliar), Henka Waza, etc.

Aikido is simply intercepting an attacker, unbalancing him, and disolving his energy flow. Some is technique, most is understanding movement and physiology; the rest, experience.
