Details: The seminar will be held in the Glen Helen Ecology Institute's beautiful circular building. Each day's training will consist of half bukiwaza and half taijutsu with a kaeshiwaza class added to round out the program.

I would like to go, but I'm just a bit too far away. I will be going to Mitsunari Kanai Shihan's seminar at the Aikido Tanshinjuku Dojo in Lafeyette, Colorado. It is February 22,23,24. There is more info on the dojo website.

Hi Louis, it's good to trade bytes with you again.

I'd hoped that of all the people that hang out here, someone was in the Dayton, OH area and would be attending. Oh, well.

To be honest, 50% of the reason for my going is to train with Paul Clark again. Lucky for him that his assignment took him to Wright-Patterson where there is another of the few Iwama dojo east of CA.

I can't remember if he was training with us when you where here or not. He was the young LtCol. I seem to remember there being some banter back and forth between you two.

He came along very quickly with us and recently tested for 3rd kyu ahead of schedule with his new dojo. It made me feel pretty good about our efforts to produce quality students.

Greg, it's good to hear from you to! I remember
Lt Col Clark, I think he was an F-15 pilot. He had a really strong grip, must be the result of holding onto the F-15's controls.

Appreciate the kind words. Not "early" to san-kyu, though: on time, and hoping fervently to stay that way. I HAVE managed to somehow get a kitchen pass to train 4 times a week . . .If I ever figure out how I got that done, I'll post the secret so others can try it!

I hope I'm not divulging any gender secrets here, but "kitchen pass" isn't really a military term. It's from the secret instructional videos that all fathers start showing to their sons when they puberty.

Then if I promise not to watch them, could I borrow those videos to show out here? The guys in the group I was talking with all disavowed knowledge of the term, and accused me of either making it up, or using some weird military phrase...

or is that how you men react if a woman uses those 'secret' phrases...

I have to confess I first heard the "kitchen pass" phrase in the bar in a fighter squadron, i.e."hey PJ, is your kitchen pass good for long enough to have another beer?".

To be more politically correct, gender-neutral, and non-military, I should have said "My wife is an enthusiastic participant in my aikido journey, and wholeheartedly supports my goal of training 4 times a week." This is true, incidentally, but I still don't know how I managed it . . .except that she's awesome, and in my case, it's way better to be lucky than good!

Yeah, first time I heard it was in the sqdn bar at Soesterberg (as in 'Fingers, got to go, my kitchen pass has expired!)...guess the reason it never came up while I was in ROK was the absence of anyone to grant the pass...
