You can pretty much find close approximations of techniques you see in aikido in many other martial arts. One of the reasons I got into aikido in the first place was to bolster bunkai from karate.

I saw a Taichi teacher do shihonage - he was explaining some move and 'presto' - there it was. Taichi has pretty much everything hidden in there somewhere.

Re: tai chi throws that look a lot like ikkyo and kotegaeshi!
ikkyo and kotegaeshi are ubiquitous in martial arts, since human tends to fold either forward (ikkyo) or backward (kotegaeshi). it's kinda like hotdog (sausage) in various cultures. in some place, you might get the real thing, other places like the U.S., you might get unmentionable stuffs.
btw, i liked the reverse in the video.

This karate demonstration also shows a lot of moves that look very similar to aikido moves (and taichi moves as well I think): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Sj8sUY5FIc

Tai Chi Chuan is an awesome martial art to watch in action, but difficult to find people that teach and practice it. Have often considered how you might slow down an Aikido technique to resemble a form and train within it as they do in Tai Chi.

This is exactly what I love to do. I have been at it for years - it is an excellent way to self train, and when you go back to the dojo, everything just instantly works. Go on ... test it out for yourself ... you might get hooked
