Hmm. That depends I think on which version of Daito ryu you look at. I found a lot of similarities when attending the open seminars given by Kondo Sensei from the main line tradition. From what I know of Roppokai, under Okomoto Sensei, I would say no, though. So it really depends on what specific schools you are looking at. Yoshinkan tends to be more uniform than Aikikai, but still, there are differences between schools.
I would say that Yoshinkan is pretty directly related to "Aiki Budo" and the pre-war styles of aikido. Gozo Shioda, the founder, actually was given rank in Daito ryu originally, not aikido. Like most if not all of the instructors that came out of the early pre-war training days.
