First graduates of Children's program take Shodan Exam

Posted 2012-03-17 07:52:57 by Jorge Garcia

On March 12, 2012, two twin boys from the Shudokan School of Aikido in Houston, Texas, presented their arts before Hiroshi Kato, Shihan. George and Costa Pollos have been training since 2003. They trained in our Children's program for 7 years and then have trained in adult class waiting until they could take the regular adult black belt test. The exam was long and called rapidly. They never practiced for the test and didn't see the exam sheet until the morning of the exam. Needless to say, everyone was stunned at what was demonstrated. Take a look.

Well, it looks like fun! I would have liked to have seen a little less editing so that I could get a better picture of how the grading went as a whole.

Another graduate of the children's program, Bianca Verar made this clip from her own camera. Bianca is 15 years old and she made the clip first and then sent it to me to see what I thought. I told her that it looked like a movie trailer and that I wanted to see the movie the trailer came from! Being from the younger generation, she made it from a perspective the youth are more familiar with and she was apparently most interested in what she could do with her editing skills rather than showing the more technical aspect of judging a grading. These boys though have always moved as fast as they possibly can and all in all, the edited version was not an unreasonable depiction of what actually happened.

Best wishes,
Jorge Garcia
