Aikido Celebration 2011 - Feb 18-21, 2011 in Hawaii

"Aikido Celebration 2011" is an organization composed of more than 20 Aikido dojo throughout the state of Hawaii dedicated to the public celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first and only visit made to Hawaii by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido.

A commemorative seminar and banquet with Sandai Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba is being planned for February 2011.

I've started an announcements only mailing list for those who are interested in attending the event (or are just curious). It is intended to be a low traffic list to update interested parties as plans for the event develop.

Those interested can subscribe at http://www.aikidohawaii2011.org

Best,

Chris

Re: Aikido Celebration 2011: Save the Date

A historic event, and a family vacation in one package!

Aikido's introduction to America began in Hawaii, with the invitation to Aikikai Foundation via the Nishi System of Health Engineering.

Noriyasu Kagesa was the then Hawaii Chapter president, and facilitated the invitation to Koichi Tohei., which came to fruition in 1953. Mr. Kagesa and his family were lifelong supporters of Koichi Tohei, the Founder, and of Aikido, The Founder, and Nobuyoshi Tamura, were guests at the Kagesa home for their historic 1961 visit.

Much has happened in the Aikido community throughout the decades, with more to follow.

Yet, all follows that which came before.

This celebration is one to seriously include in your 2010 plans.

Mahalo, and Aloha.

Re: Aikido Celebration 2011: Save the Date

Aikido Celebration 2011 is now listed on the official Hawaii tourism website run by the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau at http://www.gohawaii.com/event?id=15162.

If you're planning on combining attendance at the Aikido Celebration 2011 seminar with Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu in February 2011 and a vacation in Hawaii (and who wouldn't want to do that!) the official Hawaii Tourism website is a great resource for planning your trip

Just to clarify, Stevens Sensei has volunteered to hold this session as an independent event. It is not an "official" event of the Aikido Celebration 2011 seminar. Everybody is welcome - I certainly plan to be there!

Re: Aikido Celebration 2011 - Feb 18-21, 2011 in Hawaii

There is still space available for Aikido Celebration 2011. In fact, Doshu has asked us not to turn away anybody who wishes to come!

However, the seminar fee will increase for late registration (after January 31st 2011). Register now for $170.00, from February 1st the seminar fee goes up to $200.00.

I hope that everybody will consider joining us for this historic event - right now I have twenty (20!) 7th dans on the attendance list.

Aikido Celebration 2011 Event Information

Aloha!

Aikido Celebration 2011 is almost here. We have maxed out our banquet attendance at 500, and have well over 400 registered participants for the seminar. Twenty-one seventh dans are scheduled to attend.

Please check the Aikido Celebration 2011 notifications page for updates and seminar information. Please check this page often for up to date information, since schedules may change as we get closer:

http://www.aikidohawaii2011.org/notices.html

There have been a number of recent changes and additions, as well as some changes to the seminar schedule, so please take a moment to check the notices page.

***For those planning on attending the ceremony at Aikido of Honolulu on Friday night - no shoes are allowed inside the dojo. Because of the large number of people attending, we are asking all attendees to bring a plastic bag for their shoes and carry their shoes with them during the ceremony. We hope that this will help avoid confusion and lost shoes.

See you all in a few days!

Best,

Chris
