Hi from San Jose California !!

Hello all members. How many members are from the Bay Area? Has anyone had a chance to train in Japan? How was the experience compare to training in the United States?

Re: Hi from San Jose California !!

Hallo and welcome. I have been here awhile, and i recently noticed that a lot of the people posting in here are from dojos in Texas.

Hello Tony,

I train in Santa Cruz and I'm often over the hill visiting various dojo.

Having never trained in Japan, I can't make a truly educated comment except to say that the people I've trained with who trained in Japan (or are from Japan) are universally mixed. It's either "training, just like here" or it's "more intensive".

The only difference I've noticed is that people who go to Japan are often more skilled in general terms, but I think it has more to do with how interested and committed to training they are.. and in fact, when I calibrate them against people I know who have never gone to Japan, it's difficult to observe the differences.

Of course, I am in-experienced enough in these things to have an authoritative opinion.

Re: Hi from San Jose California !!

I trained at Aikido Santa Cruz a few times when Anno sensei was there. It's a nice dojo. I have not had the pleasure of training with Linda sensei. I should visit Aikido Santa Cruz sometime. If you are ever in the Sunnyvale area come by and visit my dojo. You can find direction at our web site - Kimori Dojo Silicon Valley Branch.

Take care.

Re: Hi from San Jose California !!

Hi there, I train with Sandy Olliges Sensei at San Jose State University. It's my second semester with her as my instructor. Occasionally Sue-Ann McKean Sensei substitutes for her as a guest instructor, and we go to field trips to the dojo at Aikido of San Jose
