Name of a move in the 9-count jo-kata
Hi folks,
Doing a step-by-step guide to the 9-count jo kata for our club Newsletter and can't get hold of my teacher and hope to finish the newsletter by the morning.
If you are familiar with this set between the first and second shomen there is a defensive move - I know how to say it but not to spell it! Tried Google but no good.
Move is Ki De Goish (at least that's how it sounds) - it's a bokken defense too.
If anyone knows the correct spelling I'd be grateful.

uke nagashi? That's a common sword block, where the force of the impact in the block begins the movement of the cut.

Re: Name of a move in the 9-count jo-kata
Hi,
If you had a bokken, I'd explain the move as follows:
In Migi-hanmi, slide your right front foot about 10" to the left (just passed your left foot) - your feet will look as if you have just completed a kaiten.
At the same time you swing the bokken in a semi-circle out to the left until the hilt is touching your forehead - with the point directed at your opponent's face - what would be the sharp edge of the bokken is twisted to the right and slightly downwards to protect the edge from the attack.
With a Jo it's the same more-or-less

Don't know what to tell ya, that doesn't sound like anything I do with a jo or bokken. I'd say check with your sensei and let us know what it's called.

9 count jo kata? Never heard of it before. In what lines of aikido is this kata common?

Hi,
It's something we do in the UKA - United Kingdom Aikikai (traditional style), along with 13, 22 and 31 count kata.
I'll find out though and let you know! lol
