"Forget the bouquet: Bride tosses groom"

Here's an article about an aikido wedding entitled "Forget the bouquet: Bride tosses groom" that starts out, "Some people throw rice at weddings. Barbara Stanton, 48, threw her groom over her shoulder and slammed him down. Hard. Unfazed, Jonathan Klopp, 53, jumped up and flipped his black-belt bride onto her back."

I've so far known a few couples who have been involved in aikido/budo weddings. Do any of you know such couples, or have you yourself had an aikido wedding ceremony?

Here in the UK "Bride tosses groom" has an entirely different connotation.

Congratulations, Jonathan!

One of my seniors in Japan married in a ceremony that involved changing into dogis and performing Aikido on each other. They had met at the dojo. He was American, she was Japanese, and much of the dojo was invited. I wasn't there for this (as it was before I joined the dojo), but I did see the pictures.

Does a wedding cake count?

That cake is soooo cute! I want one!

The aikido wedding ceremony actually sounds kind of nice, too. Sadly, my boyfriend doesn't really practice (I've only gotten him into the dojo a few times).

Did he literally "pop" the question? Ah, the fresh sound of joints cracking early in the morning.

I'm sorry, they were in dogi...much more props to Kjartan (of aikido faq) and Maria, who several yrs ago koshi'd each other in full traditional Western wedding garb following the ceremony.

Right, so I love the cake. But on some level I agree with Janet. Doing it in dogi is fine, but Aikido in a tux...

...well, how could it get better than that?

Re: "Forget the bouquet: Bride tosses groom"

This is the first I heard of this kind of wedding,
But back in PA I trained with a Danzan Ryu group where it was quite common for randori of sorts to break out on the dance floor at a receptions of those who got married.

It would start with the usual dancing and then someone would get thrown and from there you just had to be prepared or make sure you didn't dance with any of the Jujutsuka.
