Seminar: Corky Quakenbush, Aiki-Lab

January 17-19, 2014, North Vancouver, B.C. - Aiki-Lab seminar with Corky Quakenbush 1st Dan.

Osensei has been quoted as saying: "Do away with set forms. With the mastery of spirit as your highest principle, pour your heart and soul into the art of takemusu, and seek [the truth]. If you waver from making the spirit the center of your existence, all techniques and movements are of no use."

and

"Takemusu is the generation of spontaneous martial techniques by remaining in accordance with the power and structure of nature. It is constantly giving birth to new creations."

This begs the question, why do we spend all of our practice time repeating techniques? And why would we focus on methods of controlling another person when the Founder emphasized compassion and the spiritual essence of aikido?

During this weekend event, you will participate in Aiki-Lab, a method for practicing aikido with the goal of takemusu aiki instead of technique replication. This method, ten years in development, utilizes authentic attack energy intention instead of collusive ukemi. Rather than rote repetition of aiki paths made concrete in form by generations of teacher/student emulation, Aiki-Lab approaches aikido as an art not reliant on technique or but on the embodiment of higher consciousness while employing the relatively simple elemental movements of aikido.

Emphasis in this seminar will be on delivering authentic ukemi originating from martial intention to be better practice partners, and recognizing and transcending the lower brain responses that put us into conflict so that aikido arises spontaneously, effortlessly, and painlessly from our interaction.

Kanshu Sunadomari Shihan, uchideshi to Osensei from 1942 said in an interview, "You can create your own techniques. If you understand the basics you can create techniques to infinity, you don't need someone to teach you that. We then see the wonderful beauty of Aikido.
If you understand only one AIkido technique then all variations will arise spontaneously."

Come to this seminar in North Vancouver to see how you can add a non-technique practice to your training and see the infinite expression of aiki that is available to you along with all the benefits that come with it.
