I have on occasion as a part of moving practice. Not with a partner though. It's a good place to practice hip movement and turning movement.

Re: Anyone ever train moving in water?

Tried it in some of the larger rivers here to practice relaxation and "moving instinctively with the flow" so to speak. Not to mention that it just felt cool. Also practice in the ocean.

Actually it sorta helped me figure out the movements of gyakugamae ate (sokumen irimi nage) and aigamae ate (irimi nage) by helping me understand how to apply the "wave" motion more effectively in my techniques by moving from my hips.

Was interesting - one more reason for beach training.

Re: Anyone ever train moving in water?

I have trained many things in water. From your basic footwork, to Judo type throws, to kicking, and punching.
I know kicking and punching may not mean anything, but I felt a satisfaction knowing I could do the techniques (kicking) in a pool and keep my balance.

Of course, it was my parents pool (and I was alone) so people werent around looking at the "want to be karate kid."
