Article: 50 Years in Maui Ki-Aikido

"Mauian first woman with 50 years in ki-aikido"

http://www.mauinews.com/story.aspx?id=5000

The article starts:

"In the world of ki-aikido, Olive Silva is a trailblazer, the only woman in the world who for 50 years has been a disciple of the martial art.

"The 82-year-old godan, or fifth-degree black belt, is a treasure, one of only three living ki-aikido disciples with five decades under their belts."

Wow.

She still actively assist in a few children and high school level classes. She also attends many regular adult classes and is an active and vocal member of the board of directors of the Maui Ki Aikido.

One of our male Sensei's will also make 50 years and he is 6th Dan, Suzuki Sensei is 8th Dan (just over 50 years). Rank is different for everybody. We have three women with about 30 years who are also 6th Dan. It's been said that our Dojo tends not to just hand them out for longevity sake.

That being said, I am in no position to judge anyone's rank. I have tremendous respect for Olive Silva. That will never change nor be affected by a Dan rank.
