Aikido Journal reports that Kanshu Sunadomari sensei has passed away on November 13th, 2010, at the age of 87. He started training with Morihei Ueshiba sensei in 1942 and was teaching until August of this year.

My condolences go out to his friends, family, students, and loved ones.

Re: Kanshu Sunadomari Sensei Passes Away

The Aikido World has suffered yet another loss of a giant figure in Aikido's lore, legacy and legitimacy.

Condolences to the Sunadomari family, primary and extended, and to all who knew and benefited from meeting and interacting with him.

In Oneness,

Re: Kanshu Sunadomari Sensei Passes Away

Another irreplaceable resource passes away. Sunadomari Sensei was one of the few who could relate to the way in which O-Sensei himself thought about Aikido. His family were Omotokyo followers and that gave him a unique understanding of the Founder's Aikido. This is a tremendous loss for the Aikido world.

Onegaishimasu. Condolences to family, friends and students. I heard about this passing in the aikidojournal newletter and especially loved the story about Sensei playing the harmonica in homes for the elderly although he was older than some of the residents!

In gassho,

Mark

A great human being who expressed his humanity through practice. Rest in Peace.

Re: Kanshu Sunadomari Sensei Passes Away

I'm just wondering if anybody knows how he died. I can't find anything on the net other than the post on Aikido Journal, and I can't find anything at all written in Japanese, which I think is strange.
