Aikido after Sex?
Before I start my training, I would like to know if temporary abstinance preceeding class, is something to worry about.
It has been said, that having intercourse before some type of physical event (other then the intercourse) as in Sports, Workouts, Martial Arts etc. can be damaging. Do you find that it relaxes you, or is it something that hinders your preformance in the dojo?
I would think that Aikido, requiring it's practicioners to be realitively relaxed and such during practice, that it would actually help them,
But as I stated, I have not yet taken my first Aiki class, and am quite interested if this is something I should consider before being thrown around.
Thank you.
Eddie

Re: Aikido after Sex?
As long as you wash up before class I guess it can't hurt.

Re: Aikido after Sex?
Eddie, What do you think could cause the damage? Aikido after Sex or Sex before aikido-classes?
I personally go to classes directly from work. So if I'ld had sex directly before, it could cause pain - but only when my employer or my wife would get knowledge of it.
Becoming more serious now, intercourse with a strict time schedule, could be somewhat exciting. If this is too often, this could lead to unhealthy stress - for your body and for your relationship(s).
in any case, have much fun with both.
Just my 2 cents - I do not have a medical degree.
Regards Dirk

Well that's a new one.
I can just imagine it,
"But dear, it'll help my Aikido...."
Sheesh.

Re: Aikido after Sex?
IMHO, old myths seldom die.
Its up to you and your partner when you have sex.
Its up to you, your Sensei, and your school when you have class.
I personally prefer as much of both as is positive, mutually consenting, and possible.
Relax, breathe, and enjoy yourself. That applies to both situations.

Also, out of consideration for your training partner(s), might be a good idea to get a shower between finishing one activity and starting the other.

Re: Aikido after Sex?
If you want some view points about sex and sports, watch the movie "Wimbeldon".
Sorry, can't help with the rest... I think women have different abilities concerning this compared to men... and then again, it could be me...
As for women, never found it to effect the abilities of either, no matter which came first (then again, I'm speaking for myself).

Once again (in all but politics, it seems): I'm with the good Dr. on this one.
Having tried it (by lucky happenstance, not by design...and that's ALL your going to get from me ), I can safely attest that sex before practice neither helps, or overtly hinders, Aikido.
I've also tried yoga before Aikido; Capoeira before Aikido...even Aikido (in a seminar emphasizing one style), before Aikido (in a seminar emphasizing a completely different style): and I can safely say that none of these things were "damaging."
Altho, I WAS breathing more deeply after the sex...AND I was smiling a lot...does that count?

Re: Aikido after Sex?
Why don't you try sex after Aikido? I feel energized after most aikido class. On the other hand, I just want to go to sleep after sex. Maybe it's just me. I'm not doing the technique correctly.

Re: Aikido after Sex?
the real skills are
1) trying sex during aikido (and not getting caught by sensei)
2) trying aikido during sex (and not having a trip to casualty!)

On a side note- and probably completely off on a tangent, I stumbled across an English/Klingon interweb-translator and just out curiosity, and no small amount of mischief; typed in 'aikido' and punched it in. I was surprised and thoughtful at the result.
The Klingon translation for Aikido?
'Foreplay'.
