When people say "relax" they mean to have about the same sort of quality to your movements as you have when you give someone a hearty handshake, not stiff or muscular. Likewise, if someone says to "extend" give your movements the same quality.

When someone is coming along with their arms full of groceries and you rush forward to get the door for them, that is much the quality that your more dynamic techniques should have. Never muscular and stiff, neither so relaxed as to be limp or floppy.
