Unhappy Aches and pains

Does any body have any useful suggestions as to how to relieve the routine aches and pains
asocciated with our beloved martial art.
Glucosamine seems to work great for my knees,
but I'm open to advice on aching elbows, wrists and shoulders.

Aches and Pains

I have been having some good results taking a couple of tablespoons of Flax seed oil daily...According to the literature, it is a natural anti-inflammatory. I also notice a big difference when I keep my water intake up.

Make sure you warm up properly,
Make sure you get a good nights sleep (real big difference to me)
Watch your diet too, I suppose..

I don't have any magic potions to offer. However, I find that if you keep yourself in good shape and stretch constantly, it makes a big difference. I always try to keep as flexible as posible. A good diet should also help.

Hi there, I too use glucosamine sulfate in combination with chondroitin sulfate (comes in a single pill form). I realize that diet and stretching exercises help but for those who experience inflammed joints after Aikido workouts I have found my solution to be extremely beneficial (please consult your Doctor or pharmacist before taking any prescription or natural source medicine).

Smile Vitamin I...

I use the old standby of Vitamin I (Ibuprofin).

You should have seen it at the last Aikido camp I went to. Practically everyone was walking around either asking for Ibuprofin or dispensing it.

I've also found that a lot of sleep and enough water intake helps a whole bunch.

Ok ok, I guess an explanation is necessary regarding my last post. First of all, I train hard and feel great after Aikido sessions too. I am in good physical shape, drink lots of water, eat well yet still found inflammation in my my joints after hard workouts (specifically in my hips). To make a long story short it was affecting my quality of sleep dramatically. Regarding glucosamine, it helps the body produce "collagen" which is the protein portion of a fibrous substance which hold joints together. Collagen is also the main constituent of a shock-absorbing cushion called articular cartilage. We intake this substance in small amounts every day so what I take is a supplement. Chondroitin is a natural anti-inflammatory and is bound to collagen (once again, it is a substance naturally produced by the body). Both of these supplements help reduce the stress on my joints, impede inflammation and allow me a solid night sleep. It is non-prescription and a nice alternative to ibuprofen. I don't view them as "voodoo" supplements since their benefit is well documented in medical science. I am relatively young at 32, I figure why suffer pain all night when you don't have to? I realize that not everyone has experienced joint pain like myself, I was just giving advice to the gentleman who began this thread.

Has anyone tried Tahitian NONI Juice?

A few years ago someone convinced my wife that it was the new miracle tonic to take. It supposedly helps with everything from headaches (I never get them anyway), arthritis, high blood pressure to getting you to shodan in a few months.

The stuff is very expensive, looks like sewer sludge and tastes even worse.

Didn't do anything for me. Has anyone heard of it or tried it themselves?

My first sensei studied Yoshinkai Aikido before training under Chiba Sensei...everything on everybody always hurt. Ginger baths and Tei Fu lotion worked like magic...
