Freaky! Getting racked taking ukemi....

I keep on taking a glancing blow when I take ukemi on ikkyo. I have had some really good ideas from my sensei and sempai(sp). What do you think? I have tried a jockstrap to little avail.

Sorry, I'm really not sure how what I think you're saying could be happening...and I'm a little nervous about asking for further description...

Re: Getting racked taking ukemi....

You might try compression shorts-that and keep the legs apart unless you are racking em when going down on the stomach. High falls are my nemesis. I once herniated a fat tumor in the spermatic cord from a soft spot on a mat (on cement) on a high fall. When I hit the ground I knew it was some serious damage-you get that sick in the gut feeling.

Re: Getting racked taking ukemi....

How would you get hit in the crotch doing ikkyo ukemi? It baffles me.

Maybe the sudden drop, but that's not really a blow...the legs moving past each other...?

There is no atemi and either omote or ura
When my pelvis hits the mat.....THEY move.

Re: Getting racked taking ukemi....

OUCH...
Maybe its just me, but if its an osae or pinning technique, first I'm kneeling, then kind of sliding into the mat. So my pelvis never really 'hits' the mat, I kind of merge with the mat. Even on vigourous techniques.

Then too, I wear briefs. I like no 'slangin in the pouch'...if you know what I mean...

There are those who go commando...personally, I don't recommend it.

Re: Getting racked taking ukemi....

Wait ... what rank are you? never out pace your ability or let a nage inflict unwarrented pain!!
maybe your nage is taking you too quickly to the mat and has not allowed you to learn the ukemi for that, my advice is to take some extra practice on ukemi.
i teach it where the uke gets in seiza, then rises slightly, then one arm goes behind the back and the other goes across the body, the angle is much like when you take the technique IE left arm behind, right arm out sliding towards where the left arm should be in a sincere tenkan movement.

Re: Getting racked taking ukemi....

Um, is it your hanmi/ stance you are in? If your partner keeps giving you a "glancing blow", then they are perhaps showing you are open, which, as a woman, I can only imagine the pain.
You don't want your legs spread open you should be going down on your inside knee to protect "the spot that really counts."

Re: Getting racked taking ukemi....

I like that, how very thought of you.

The pain is very and we're all looking I hope when we step on the mat to finish the class at the very lest with everything in its place

Re: Getting racked taking ukemi....

Sounds mor elike a medical issue- better see a urologist. What may be a minor ache in the nads now, could be a symptom of something really nasty- just ask me or lance.
